On July 14, 2017, at the request of the Managing Authority of the Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014 – 2020 Operational Program at the Center for the preparation of students for competitions in Sofia, a training seminar was held on the topic "Irregularities and fraud funded by the ESIS". Lecturers in the training were experts from the AFCOS Directorate.
More than 50 employees of the Managing Authority took part in the seminar. The main topics related to legal foundations and definitions concerning irregularities and fraud with the EU funds, investigations and on-the-spot checks conducted by the OLAF and the work on signals and carrying out administrative checks for identifying irregularities were presented by the representatives of the concrete Departments of the AFCOS Directorate.
The methodical assistance rendered from the AFCOS Directorate not only contribute to increasing the administrative capacity of the Managing Authority in the process of administration, registration, reporting and investigation of irregularities and fraud and also is an important preventive measure for protecting the financial interests of the EU and the national budget in accordance with the main Directorate control and coordination functions.
